Highway fatalities have seen a significant drop from 41,259 in 2007, to 32,885 in 2010. Highway safety programs have played a significant role in this decline by analyzing where safety improvements could be made, while utilizing nine safety countermeasures that FHWA worked with Division Offices to collectively advance. The FHWA Office of Highway Information Policy’s annual publication on Highway Statistics is now available. This publication is a compilation of 2010 statistical information on motor fuel, motor vehicle registrations, driver licenses, highway user taxation, highway mileage, travel, and highway finance.
Of the 13,300 projects obligated, more than 3,900 projects are under construction and more than 9,100 projects have been completed. The ARRA provides significant new funding for transportation infrastructure. Information on ARRA projects can be found on the Recovery Act Data System website and general information can be found on FHWA’s ARRA website.
